Aurangabad District

History:

Originally known as Kadoki, the city was founded in 1610 by Malik Amber (Amber). After the collapse of the Nizamshahi dynasty in 1633, the city was placed under the control of the Mughal Empire. Later, it was renamed Aurangabad after becoming the headquarters of Aurangzeb during the Viceroyalty of Decans. Aurangabad remained the headquarters of an independent Nizam (ruler), but was devastated when the capital was moved to Hyderabad, the princely state of Hyderabad. In 1948, Aurangabad was incorporated into the newly independent state of Hyderabad, India. It then became part of Bombay State (1956–60) before it was split into Maharashtra and Gujarat.
