Introduction
Maharashtra is a state in India. It is the second-largest populated state including 36 districts. The capital is Mumbai, and Mumbai is the largest city. In winter, the capital is shifted to Nagpur. There are three international airports situated in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune.
History
After the Independence of India, Bombay state demanded an independent Marathi- speaking region. Eventually, in 1960, India's parliament enacted an act to formulate a separate Marathi region. Maharashtra became an independent state of India under the States Reorganisation Act and Bombay became the capital of Maharashtra.
Fairs and festivals
Maharashtrians are very cheerful. They never lose a chance to enjoy a single celebration. There are several fairs and festivals throughout the year i.e., Ganesh Chaturthi, Ellora festival, Banganga Festival, Elephanta Festival, Gudi Padwa, Navroz festival, Janmashtami festival, Changdeo fair, Kiran Utsav, Navaratra Mahalaxmi fair, Rath YatraShrirama Rathotsava fair, and much more.
Geography
Maharashtra is located in the western and central parts of India. It covers an area of 307,713 km². Its boundary is covered in the east by Chhattisgarh, north by Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, south by Karnataka and Goa, and north-west by Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Godavari, Tapti, Krishna, and Bhima are flowing through the state.
Demographics
Maharashtra is the most populated state as it has a 9.28% population, of which males are 58,243,056, and females are 54,131,277 as per the 2011 census.
Culture
The state is enriched with diverse cultures. The culture is changing with the light of modernity. Mumbai is the film city and primary center of arts and culture. Women wear sarees and men wear pajamas or dhoti with shirts.
Language
Marathi has legitimacy in the state. Other languages like English, Urdu, Konkani, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Tulu, Gujarati, and Telugu are also spoken. Although, other than English, every language is used by border areas of the state.
Tourism
There are numerous destinations to visit such as ancient temples, caves, forts, museums, waterfalls, lakes, hill stations, beaches, and wildlife sanctuaries. The Chatrapati Shivaji is Heritage tourism. As per the survey, Maharashtra is the topmost tourist visiting the place.
Education
According to the 2011 census, the total literacy rate is 82.34 % including 88.38 % literate males and 75.87 % literate females. The state has numerous private and government schools, colleges, and universities. The mandatory languages used in schools, colleges, and universities are Marathi, Hindi, and English. Armed Forces Medical College was the first institution constructed after the Independence of India.
Dances and music
Some popular dances are Lavani, Lezim, Tamasha, Koli, Gondhal, and Dhangari Gaja dance, while the most famous dance is Lavani. Lavani is performed by beautiful women in traditional attire i.e., Nauveri.
Cuisine
Maharashtrian cuisine can be mild as well as spicy food. The cuisine has been divided into various as per region i.e., Kolhapuri, Malvani, and Varadi cuisine. The famous dishes are Vada Pav, Misal Pav, Bombil, Puri, Bhelpuri, Modak, Pithla Bhakri, Kolambi Bhaat, Amati, Poha, Pav Bhaji, and Puran Poli.
