History:
Tirunelveli, also known as Nellai and historically known as Tinnevelly, is the largest city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of the Tirunelveli Region. The Tirunelveli region was founded in 1790 by an East Indian company, which later came under the direct control of the British Crown Queen Victoria. The name Tirunelveli is derived from three Tamil words meaning 'Thiru - Nel - Veli' which means Sacred Paddy Hedge.
