Mayiladuthurai is the capital and regional capital of Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu, India. The village is located 281 km (175 mi) from the provincial capital, Chennai. Mayiladuthurai is owned by the city panchayat founded in 1866. The regional name "MAYILADUTHURAI" comes from the goddess Goddess Parvathi who portrays herself as a peacock to attract the attention of Lord shiva through a miraculous dance.
