History:
Thanjjavur is also Tanjore, a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Thanjavur is the 11th largest city in Tamil Nadu. The name of the town "Thanjavur" is believed to be derived from the name of the Mutharayar king, "Thananjay" or "Dhananjaya". It is a historical site ruled by the Chola, Pandya, Nayk, Marathas and was under British rule until Independence. The pursuit of these rulers is evident in the great monuments such as the Grand Anaicut, the Great Temple and the Sarofoji Mahal, the Palace and the Saraswathi Mahal Library, etc. in the region.
