About Lakhimpur District
History:
Lakhimpur is an administrative district in Assam, India. The district headquarters is located in North Rakinpur. The district was named the Lakinpur district after a proclamation by the then governor-general in July 1839. On October 2, 1971, the district was reorganized into two subdivisions: Dhemaji and North lakhimpur. It was then reorganized in 1989 into two subdivisions. Dhakuakhana and North Lakhimpur leave Dhemaji as a separate district. The area was formerly known as "Koliapani" because there was virtually no road connection to the area until 1950.
