About Tonk
History:
The history o Tonk is very old as it is related to Vilas culture. In the Mahabalat era, it was known as SAMWAD LAKSHYA. The area was under the Maurya dynasty and later merged with Marbas. Since then, much of the region has become part of the harsh Valdan Empire. Tonk was the princely state of India during the British Raj empire. The provincial capital, Tonk, had a population of 273,201 in 1901. The city was surrounded by walls and there was a mud fortress. This elegant city of Jaipur was once ruled by the Pashtuns of Afghanistan.
