About Ernakulam District

History:

District Ernakulam was founded on April 1, 1958, with the founding of Kanayanal, Coach, Kunatunadhu, Alva and Parlor Talcs. Held at the Kerala Fine Arts Hall in 1957, hours of deliberation with various political, social and media activists helped create the district. The etymology of the term "Ernakulam" is linked to various sources, either temple-oriented or mythical. Komattil Achutha Menon traces the origin of this word to a type of mud called "Erangiyal". Lord Shiva was called "Erayanar" in Chennai in the past. This continues in Kerala, later known as "Ernakulam".
