Vikasnagar

Vikasnagar (विकासनगर) is among the most rapidly growing cities in the Dehradun (देहरादून) district of the state of Uttarakhand. The city has an approximate elevation of 452 meters above sea level, on the bank of the Yamuna River (यमुना नदी), and about forty kilometers northwest of Dehradun. It is also called Panchawadoon (पंचवादून) or Western Doon. It is the secondary monetary center of the district after Dehradun.

From Chauhadpur (चौहड़पुर) to Vikasnagar

Earlier called Chauhadpur Nardidih (चौहड़पुर नारडीडीह), the town started out growing after a chain of hydroelectric initiatives came up in the region. In 1965, the then Member of Parliament and Union Minister Mahavir Tyagi (केंद्रीय मंत्री महावीर त्यागी) officially named it Vikasnagar, meaning City of Development.
